Catapulting of Wildlife

Hello everybody

Yesterday, 3rd September 26, your Aldershot PCSOs Durga and Elaine, conducted a joint patrol of the beautiful Basingstoke Canal with Surrey PCSOs to raise awareness about catapulting wildlife. 

Unfortunately, there have been several distressing incidents already this year, whereby innocent creatures have been targeted.  This must be stopped!  CATAPULTING WILDLIFE IS A CRIME!  It is illegal under statutes such as the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and the Animal Welfare Act 2006

The Surrey officers patrolled within their area, speaking to individuals and handing out leaflets letting people know how to report such a crime.

PCSOs Durga and Elaine got on their bikes and patrolled the tow path from the A331 Aqueduct down to Fleet, covering roughly 15 miles as some parts were covered twice.

During their patrols they encountered residents who live by the canal, fishermen, cyclists, military personnel, dog walkers and many others who appreciate nature and the tranquility of being by the water.  Thank you to all who took the time to speak with the officers.

Everybody they spoke to expressed their disgust at the deliberate suffering that some animals and wildfowl have been subjected to.

Please ensure that you report to 999 immediately if you see anybody in action firing at wildlife.   If you have the opportunity to use a mobile phone without putting yourself in danger – record it!  Otherwise you can report on-line to 101.
